Floor Time Strategies - Tummy Time to Crawling
We'll learn and practice developmentally appropriate strategies for reaching, stretching, rolling, sitting, and different methods and strategies for making the most of tummy time. Depending on the abilities of the babies present, we may spend more or less time in some of these areas. We may also continue into crawling strategies. Along the way, we will talk about the importance of each milestone, modifications to each strategy, how to incorporate strategies into your daily routines, and well, anything else that comes up around our babies’ development!
This class is recommended starting around 3 months old; however, younger babies are definitely welcome. For our younger infants, we will still talk about developmentally appropriate strategies. Plus, parents will be able to learn about and see what lies ahead.
Regardless of where your baby is at developmentally or even if they just happen to be *sleeping during our time together, you will come out of this class with new skills and knowledge to implement at home when they are ready. Through practice of these strategies, you will help your baby increase strength, prevent missed milestones and atypical development, and improve gross motor, fine motor, cognitive, self-help, communication, and social development.
*I will bring a couple dolls to practice on in case your baby is not interested/ready or if we have extra caregivers.
It’s best to wait 30-45 minutes after feeding to practice strategies, but we will work around if needed as much as possible.
What to bring:
- 2 blankets – (1 to lay baby on and 1 to use in our practice)
- Your normal baby gear, including a favorite toy
- Dress yourself comfortably, as we will be sitting on carpet/mats (chairs are available if needed)
